The Third Additional Protocol (Valletta Protocol) to the 1959 CoE Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters signed.
On 19 September 2025, the Lithuanian Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe signed the Third Additional Protocol (Valletta Protocol) to the 1959 CoE Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters.
Lithuania thus became one of sixteen first signatories of the Valletta Protocol, which was opened for signature that day at the CoE Justice Ministers' Conference in the capital of Malta, the current Presidency of the CoE Committee of Ministers.
This new international instrument significantly modernises and expedites mutual assistance request and delivery procedures between States Parties in their joint fight against transnational organized crime, in particular by introducing the use of electronic communication means and digital technology.
