LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AND HIS 41 COUNTERPARTS CALL FOR UNIVERSAL ABOLITION OF THE DEATH PENALTY

On 10 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and his counterparts from 41 countries signed a joint call to abolish the death penalty. Ministers stressed that the path to abolition was a long, complex, and labour-intensive process, which also demonstrated the need for the participation of the whole of society in these efforts.

The Ministers noted that the abolishment of death penalty in almost whole Europe required a dialogue and exchange of ideas between countries and civil society.
