Celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Lithuanian Community of Strasbourg
Concert at Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune Church in Strasbourg featuring Maestro Vytautas Miškinis and Laura Škarnulytė
On 20 June, the Permanent Representation, together with the Lithuanian Community of Strasbourg (l'Union des Lituaniens de Strasbourg) and the Embassy of Lithuania in France, co-organised a remarkable concert of sacred and choral music in Strasbourg. The event featured the vocal ensemble FENESTRA from Freiburg (Germany), conducted by Laura Škarnulytė, alongside outstanding instrumentalists from Lithuania, France and Germany.
The concert took place at Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune Church in Strasbourg, renowned for its magnificent medieval frescoes, including the Procession of the Nations to the Holy Cross, in which Lithuania is represented among the European peoples. The highlight of the evening was the performance of Vytautas Miškinis' Light Mass, conducted by the composer himself.
The audience was welcomed by Jolita Šilanskienė, President of the Lithuanian Community of Strasbourg. Also in attendance was Eglė Čepaitė, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Lithuania in France, who travelled from Paris. During the event, Ambassador Andrius Krivas, Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the Council of Europe, delivered a congratulatory message from Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kęstutis Budrys, marking the 80th anniversary of the Lithuanian Community of Strasbourg.
Our sincere thanks go to the composer, conductors, performers, co-organisers and all guests for making this memorable celebration possible.
