Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania at the Council of Europe Mr. Gediminas Šerkšnys presented letters of credence to Mr. Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
The new Ambassador and Secretary General discussed Lithuania's input into the Council's of Europe activities. The Ambassador also informed that Lithuania will further participate actively in promoting and strengthening the core values of the Council of Europe - democracy, human rights and rule of law - in Europe.
Secretary General was very interested in the Ambassador's experience in the United Nations as Permanent Representative of Lithuania and his activities in Afghanistan, heading Lithuania's Special Mission.
In their conversation they also discussed the conflict between Georgia and Russia and the organization's efforts in removing consequences of this conflict.
Mr. G.Šerkšnys is the fourth Lithuania's Ambassador at the Council of Europe.
