A new convention establishing the International Claims Commission within the Council of Europe framework signed
34 countries and the EU have signed a new convention establishing the International Claims Commission within the Council of Europe framework.
At the closure of the year, the Council of Europe took another significant step towards ensuring accountability for the crimes of aggression committed against Ukraine: on the 16th of December, the Council of Europe Convention on the establishment of a Claims Commission for the examination of claims for compensation for damage caused by aggression was signed in The Hague. The Commission, alongside the Damage Register already operating in The Hague, will become a new component of a comprehensive international compensation mechanism for Ukraine.
On behalf of Lithuania, the Convention was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kęstutis Budrys.
